Organic farming uses ecological, economical and sustainable methods and rejects the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers. Instead, organic farming uses crop rotation to prevent soil damage by growing crops other than cotton in alternate years. The use of pesticides in organic farming is prohibited; Organic farming uses natural methods to combat pests.
Today, cotton farming is the type of agriculture that is exposed to the most chemicals. 25% of the toxic chemicals used in agriculture worldwide are used only in cotton production. Many of these chemicals used contain carcinogenic substances and harm both those who grow that cotton and those who live around it. Organic cotton is produced with organic farming methods in accordance with clearly defined standards. The organic farming method prohibits the use of toxic and persistent chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and the use of genetically modified organisms. In this way, a healthy environment for the future is provided by maintaining the desired soil fertility and obtaining agricultural systems with biodiversity.
