    Bir hastalık ya da farklı bir durum olmadığı durumlarda şu şekilde bir aşı takvimi uygulanır;

İlk aşı: Doğumdan sonra ilk 72 saat içinde Hepatit B.
    İkinci aşı 1.Ay Hepatit B.
Üçüncü aşı 2.Ay BCG, DaBT – IPV – Hib, Pnomokok.
    Dördüncü aşı 3.Ay Rotavirüs
    Beşinci aşı 4.Ay Pnömokok DaBT – IPV – Hib.Altıncı aşı 5.Ay  Rotavirüs
Yedinci aşı 6.Ay Hepatit B, OPV (Ağızdan çocuk felci), DaBT – IPV – Hib,  Pnömokok.
Sekizinci aşı 18.Ay DaBT – IPV – Hib, OPV (Ağızdan çocuk felci), Hepatit A.
    Dokuzuncu aşı 24.Ay Hepatit A.

Despite having a coastline of 8,300 kilometers—far surpassing countries like England, France, and Norway, and even doubling that of Greece—fish consumption in Turkey remains surprisingly and alarmingly low.

Fish is crucial at every stage of life starting from birth, but it is especially important during infancy. The 0–3 age period, beginning in the womb, is a time of rapid brain development, making fish consumption during this stage particularly beneficial. As a rich source of high-quality protein and essential amino acids, fish also contains omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which contribute positively to brain development. That’s why it’s recommended that pregnant women and babies starting complementary foods from the 7th month consume fish regularly for optimal cognitive growth.

Children who are fed diets high in saturated fats and calories during infancy and childhood are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases later in life. It’s therefore important to instill healthy eating habits from a young age—including the habit of eating fish. Rich in phosphorus and minerals, fish also supports bone development in school-aged children. In short, children should benefit from the nutritional value of fish from infancy onward.

There are many recipes available to prepare fish in a way that suits your baby’s or child’s taste preferences, making it easier to include in their diet.

How to Tell If Fish Is Fresh:

The quality of fish is measured by its freshness. Look for clear, unblemished eyes, red or pink gills, firm and shiny scales, and tight skin. When you press the firm flesh with your finger, it should quickly bounce back without leaving a dent.

    When Buying Fish:

Always buy fish that is in season and abundant.
When purchasing canned fish, read the label carefully. Check the expiration date, production or import permit, and ensure there is no damage, swelling, or holes in the can.

    When Cooking Fish:

Fresh fish should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours. After buying, clean and gut the fish immediately, wash and dry it thoroughly, and store it in the refrigerator until cooked. Fish can be stored in the fridge for 1–2 days, or in the freezer for 3–6 months.

The healthiest cooking methods are steaming, boiling, or pan-cooking without added fat. Avoid frying, as it reduces the nutritional value and may produce harmful substances.

Raw or undercooked fish and seafood can pose risks of parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Additionally, consuming raw fish can lead to a vitamin B1 deficiency, making it unsafe for young children.

    Keep in Mind:

Different sources recommend introducing fish to babies anytime between 8 to 12 months. Always consult your pediatrician before introducing fish, especially if there’s a history of allergies. Start with white-fleshed fish, which have milder flavors. Always ensure the fish is completely deboned, as fish bones pose a choking hazard. As with vegetables, overcooking fish can reduce its nutritional content, so steaming is the preferred method.

Even though we closely monitor every breath and carefully measure every vitamin in our children's meals, some issues that seem minor or normal can actually be early signs of anemia in children.

In fact, unless the mother has severe anemia, healthy full-term babies are typically born with sufficient iron stores and do not develop iron deficiency anemia during the first 6 months. However, after 6 months, external iron supplementation is necessary. The main causes of iron deficiency anemia include rapid growth, insufficient iron in the diet, and a diet heavily based on milk. The risk of iron deficiency is unfortunately higher in multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.) and in premature babies.

    What Are the Symptoms?

The symptoms may include irritability, loss of appetite, excessive sleepiness, fatigue, and pale skin. In some cases, it may also manifest through increased heart rate, constipation, weight loss, delayed growth, and decline in behavior and cognitive functions. If your baby exhibits any of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

How Is Anemia Treated in Children?

While iron deficiency can lead to serious problems if left untreated, the treatment is actually quite simple. Treatment typically begins with oral iron supplements. Within two months, the child usually returns to normal, but to replenish iron stores fully, treatment must continue for a longer period—sometimes up to a year. In infants, iron is usually administered in the form of syrup or drops.

Even after treatment ends, regular blood tests should be done to monitor iron levels. This helps prevent more serious health issues from developing as your child grows.

    Our Recommendation:

If your baby is under 6 months old, you should feed them exclusively with breast milk. The exceptional nutritional content of breast milk plays a vital role in maintaining healthy iron levels. If breastfeeding is not possible, choose iron-fortified formulas. Starting from the 6th month, you can introduce solid foods. As your baby grows, ensure their diet includes iron-rich foods such as legumes, leafy green vegetables, red and white meats, and liver. To increase iron absorption, don't forget to include vitamin C-rich foods like oranges, tomatoes, and lemons.

To raise your baby in a healthy way—both mentally and physically—it's crucial to be very attentive. Parents must fulfill their responsibilities in baby care properly; otherwise, they may face consequences that are difficult to remedy later on.

    Key Aspects of Baby Care:

    Feeding:

Breast milk alone is sufficient for the first six months. After the sixth month, you can start introducing appropriate solid foods. Breastfeeding until the age of two is highly beneficial for your baby. Unless the mother has a health issue, this can be done without concern.

    Burping:

It's necessary to help your baby release the air swallowed during feeding. You should burp your baby both during and after feeding; otherwise, the trapped air may cause discomfort and interfere with feeding. To burp your baby, place them over your shoulder, on your lap, or seated in your arms, then gently pat or rub their back.

    Diaper Changing:

Changing your baby's diaper about 6–7 times a day is usually sufficient. Since newborns often poop more frequently, they should be checked more often in the early months. A clean diaper helps your baby stay comfortable and prevents diaper rash. Also, remember that cleaning differs between boys and girls.

    Skin Care:

A baby’s skin is extremely delicate and thin, and improper care can lead to irritation, which may increase the risk of infection. In the days following birth, the skin may become dry, flaky, or peel. In such cases, use moisturizers, baby oil, or lotions that do not contain harmful chemicals. Clothing that comes into direct contact with the baby’s skin should be made from 100% cotton.

    Bathing:

Bathing is a key part of baby care. It soothes the baby and supports better sleep. You can bathe your baby daily or every other day. Be sure to prepare everything in advance and dress your baby quickly to prevent chills. Giving a bath before feeding may help prevent vomiting. For babies who are fussy or have gas issues, bathing 1–2 hours before bedtime can promote more restful sleep. After bathing, drying the baby thoroughly is essential to prevent rashes and irritation.

    Clothing:

Dress your baby according to the weather. Overdressing can cause overheating and discomfort, making the baby more vulnerable to catching a cold from even a mild breeze. To check if your baby is too hot or cold, feel their chest or back and adjust clothing accordingly. Choose clothing made from non-synthetic, breathable cotton suitable for the season.

    Sleep:

Sleep patterns vary from baby to baby. In the early months, babies usually sleep 15–18 hours a day. As they grow, this gradually decreases, and a more regular sleep-wake pattern develops. Eventually, they may nap for 1–3 hours during the day and sleep for 3–6 hours at night. Laying your baby on their side while sleeping helps prevent choking in case of spit-up. Observe your baby to determine their natural sleep schedule. Create a sleep routine based on their internal biological rhythm, not just your preferred hours.

During the hot summer months, extra attention must be given to the health of babies. Factors such as clothing, feeding, and protection from conditions like heat rashes and summer diarrhea should be carefully managed. Additionally, it’s important to ensure that babies benefit from the Vitamin D they can get from sunlight.

    Clothing Selection:

Since babies cannot regulate their body temperature like adults, it’s crucial to choose appropriate clothing for the summer months. Especially for babies under 12 months old, lightweight, cotton, moisture-wicking, and breathable clothes should be chosen. Avoid synthetic fabrics and layering too many clothes. If ignored, the baby’s body temperature may rise, leading to fluid imbalance, dehydration, and a lack of appetite. Excessive heat can also clog sweat glands and lead to rashes. To avoid this, dress babies in loose, cotton, organic clothing.

Bathing and Diaper Changes in Summer:

One of the best ways to comfort your baby in hot weather is to give them a daily bath with lukewarm water. Since heat provides the right environment for diaper rashes and heat rashes to form, it’s important to change diapers frequently, wash the baby’s bottom with lukewarm water instead of using wipes, and leave the skin exposed to air to keep it dry. Applying a thin layer of non-toxic protective cream can prevent diaper rashes.

    Fluid Needs in Summer:

To ensure a healthy summer, you need to pay attention to your baby’s nutrition. While newborns who are exclusively breastfed may not need extra water, it’s important to remember that the mother's fluid needs increase during the hot months. As a result, the milk might have a lower water content. Experts recommend that mothers drink plenty of water and give boiled water to the baby to ensure proper hydration.

    Preventing Possible Summer Illnesses:

In hot weather, microorganisms reproduce faster, and food spoils more quickly, leading to a higher risk of diarrhea. It’s important to follow hygiene rules to prevent this from happening.

    Insects and Bugs in Summer:

With windows and doors open and more time spent outdoors, the chances of encountering unwanted insects, such as flies and mosquitoes, are higher in the summer. Some of these insects can cause allergic reactions. Using mosquito nets and screens in your baby’s room is a good way to protect them. It’s best to avoid chemical insect repellents for the safety of your baby.

Sports, in addition to their significant physical health benefits, are activities that help develop children's creativity and contribute to them gaining a sense of responsibility. You should guide your child in choosing a sport based on their age, physical development, and most importantly, their preferences.

Why Should We Encourage Children to Participate in Sports?

Starting sports at an early age and adopting it as a lifestyle plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, obesity, and heart diseases. Sports help develop a child’s self-confidence and emotional skills. Children who play sports learn to deal with negative emotions, such as defeat and disappointment, and how to compete with others independently, without their parents being present. Children who start sports at an early age are less likely to experience psychological issues such as depression or anxiety disorders later in life. Sports teach teamwork to children and provide opportunities for leadership development. Sports are a very effective tool for teaching children the importance of discipline and self-control. In order to reach a goal, an individual must control their own behavior and resist their desires. Through the rules of sports, children will inevitably learn self-discipline. Regular participation in sports is one of the best and most enjoyable ways to protect children from bad habits. Encouraging children to participate in sports allows them to make new friends and, by engaging in a shared activity, helps their social development. Engaging in activities that enhance flexibility, coordination, endurance, and strength supports growth and development, allowing children to reach their genetic physical potential more quickly. By the time they reach adulthood, they will have a taller height and a better respiratory and circulatory system. Children who engage in sports can channel their energy into physical activity, allowing them to focus better on their studies and work more efficiently.

Play, which allows children to learn while having fun, also enhances their mental capacities. Toys, on the other hand, are any objects or tools children use in their play.

Experts emphasize the importance of the first three years for a child’s intellectual development. They state that while playing with age-appropriate toys, children learn problem-solving skills, better understand their own bodies, and develop leadership abilities.

When choosing toys, it is essential to ensure they are suitable for your child's age and developmental stage, as well as to pay attention to critical details in selecting them.

    When buying toys:

    • The toy must be appropriate for the child’s age, development, abilities, and interests.
    • Make sure to choose toys from reputable manufacturers that provide safety information.
    • Ensure the toy is durable and easy to clean to protect your child from potential hazards.
    • The toy must be made with non-toxic chemicals.
    • Check that the toy does not contain metal parts, needles, or any sharp or pointed foreign materials that could cause injury.
    • Choose toys that are large enough so they cannot be swallowed or choked on.
    • Opt for toys with rounded corners, minimal details, and smooth edges.
    • The toy should have a friendly, cute design that won’t scare your child.
    • Shopping from a specialized store with informed recommendations will make your task easier.

Play is the most important activity in a child’s day. With the right toys, you can contribute significantly to their imagination and intellectual development. However, it’s important to remember that no toy can replace a parent’s attention and affection.

Play has a crucial role in child development. It is essential and beneficial for children because it helps them discover who they are, improve their motor skills, understand what they can do, and learn how to communicate with others.

Play is a wonderful tool for building a healthy relationship with your child and conveying many important lessons in a natural way.

It is very important for parents to set aside quality time specifically for playing with their children. While playing, make sure you are not distracted by anything else. Your child should know that this time is fully dedicated to them.

You should also make sure the game you choose is appropriate for your child’s developmental stage.

Playing with your child builds their self-confidence and sense of competence. It is a perfect opportunity to form strong emotional bonds with them.

Play also teaches children important social skills such as respecting others' rights, taking turns, and sharing.

While playing, observe your child. Instead of giving commands, follow their lead so you can better understand the message they are trying to express. Allowing your child to direct the game encourages creativity and independence.

Avoid creating power struggles by always trying to win or perform better during play. If you constantly excel in your role, your child may feel inadequate. Let them take control and make their own rules—this will help them feel independent and confident.

Respect your child’s ideas and praise their efforts during play. Don’t correct them by opposing or judging. The important thing is that they are trying—this is vital for developing problem-solving skills.

Asking too many questions during play may make your child feel interrogated and cause them to withdraw. Instead, make comments about the game. This helps them feel more comfortable and supports the development of their vocabulary. For example: “Now you’re serving tea,” or “You’re parking the car.”

Play is a powerful means of communication between parent and child. Making the most of it—by enjoying the moment and contributing positively to your child’s development—will lead you to the right outcome as a parent.

The negative effects of insufficient water intake in children are much more significant than commonly assumed. Experts emphasize both the mental and physical toll of dehydration and highlight the importance of parents being role models when it comes to hydration.

Especially during the summer months, with rising temperatures and increased physical activity due to school holidays, it’s crucial to pay attention to children's water consumption. Compared to adults, children are more susceptible to the effects of dehydration. Insufficient water intake not only affects the body but can also lead to difficulties in concentration and learning.

Considering that children are often more physically active than adults, water intake intervals should not exceed 20–25 minutes. In this regard, parents have a particularly important role to play.

In hot weather, the body loses fluids through sweating. It is essential to replace this loss by drinking water to maintain the body’s balance.

Adequate water consumption goes hand in hand with healthy and regular nutrition. Irregular eating habits, excessive consumption of fried and fatty foods, and sugary carbonated drinks are among the leading causes of obesity. When families allow the consumption of soda instead of water, it can lead to extremely unhealthy development. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to this issue has resulted in a growing rate of obesity among children.

Why Is Drinking Water So Important?

    • Water is a fundamental source of energy.
    • It binds substances in cells, acting as a natural adhesive.
    • Water regulates body temperature.
    • It supports respiration.
    • It helps eliminate waste after digestion is complete.
    • It energizes nutrients and helps transmit this energy to the body during digestion.
    • Food consumed without water provides no real energy value to the body.
    • It is the best natural lubricant for the intestines and helps prevent constipation.
    • It provides strength and electrical energy to the brain, especially for cognitive functions.
    • It helps prevent clotting in the heart and brain vessels.

Water, whose value to the body is second only to oxygen, cannot be praised enough. Families should act as role models by encouraging sufficient water intake in their children’s daily lives.
